HANDPOKE FLASH

HANDPOKE FLASH

  • Handpoke tattooing, also known as stick-and-poke, is a manual tattooing technique. Instead of an electric machine, the artist uses a “needle on bar” premade & and completely sterile. Ink is applied to the skin dot by dot.

  • Yes, when performed by a trained and experienced artist using sterile equipment and proper hygiene. Choosing an artist who prioritizes cleanliness is crucial. Like machine tattoos, improper handpoke techniques can lead to risks like infection and scarring. Ari is bloodborne certified.

  • The healing process varies by piece and client. It typically heals a day or two quicker than a machine tattoo with proper care and cleanliness.

Typically tattoos heal within 2-3 weeks. Allow 1 full month to see best results.

  • Anyone interested in the style who is healthy and over the age of 18.

All of Ari’s pre-drawn flash are appropriate for those who are Indigenous and non Indigenous.

Ceremonial markings are for Indigenous kin or relatives only.

  • Ari will tattoo anyone 18 years or older with valid ID. Elders are welcomed be tattooed as long as they do not have any underlying health conditions that would impact the session.

If you are any medication, please clear with your doctor beforehand and make Ari aware of any pre-existing conditions.

  • Pain is subjective, but many find hand poke tattoos less painful. The sensation is often described as annoying but nothing intolerable. Hand poke can be therapeutic for some people and other might find it easier to sit through without the buzzing or vibrations of a machine.

  • Yes, handpoke tattoos are permanent. They are a lifelong commitment and should be looked at no different than a machine tattoo.

  • For Ari, handpoke tattooing is a powerful act of reclaiming her ancestral heritage. Before colonization, women in her nation practiced this machine-free tattooing tradition. Ari feels a profound connection to this method, viewing it as her most authentic form of self-expression and contribution to the world.

  • If you have a new tattoo from Ari, she likely placed Dermsheild or some sort of bandage on it. If you have Dermshield, please follow these instructions. If you were bandaged, gently remove the bandage no sooner than 1h after appointment. Gently clean the area with antibacterial soap and water. Rinse and pat dry with paper towel. Once the tattoo is fully dry, apply a thin layer of water based moisturizer (eg: unscented gentle lotion). Apply as needed throughout scabbing process, do not pick at your tattoo, this may cause scarring or loss of pigment.

Wear sunscreen to protect your tattoo from harmful UV exposure. Also drink lots of water!

  • The duration depends on the design's size and complexity. Small, simple designs can take 30 minutes to an hour, while larger, intricate pieces may take several hours or multiple sessions. Consult Ari with as much details about your idea to get the best estimate of time.

  • If you’re choosing flash yes but if you want a custom tattoo, Ari does not provide drawings before the appointment unless the drawing is a retouch of a previously designed tattoo. If you have any concerns about custom artwork, consultations are recommended. Ari does not give permission for her work to be tattooed by any other tattooer, please kindly refrain from taking her designs without consent.

  • While not mandatory, tipping is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation for your Ari’s skill, time, and dedication. A tip of 15-20% is generally considered appropriate.

Tipping can vary in form. Some clients bring coffee, gifts, and offerings and all of it is greatly appreciated.
